The National Enabling Programmes (NEP) has been pipped to the post in the Best Cloud Project award category at Computing’s Cloud Excellence Awards 2020, which were announced online today (12/11/20). It was the second final of the week for the team that has already scooped two major awards this autumn.
The NEP’s National Management Centre was recognised this afternoon for its work as a new central security protection facility for police forces across England and Wales.
The awards were given to the best of the UK's cloud industry, from the most innovative and compelling products and vendors, through to the top use cases from end-user firms and being shortlisted is a big achievement.
Wayne Parkes, Programme Director for the NEP, said: “Despite not taking the top spot, we were thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award and recognised in this way nationally.
“The NMC is a key asset and our staff have worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition. The Centre is a focused cyber security protection facility that has been developed to support the complex requirement of UK policing and beyond.
“We look forward to the ongoing work and collaboration that will take place nationally over the coming months to support police forces and the public.”
The NMC deploys a range of security tools, technologies and a specialist team of analysts that monitor, hunt and help to detect unknown, sophisticated and evasive cyber security threats 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days each year. The Centre ensures each force’s local ICT team can lock down and eliminate any cyber threats before they cause damage and disruption to the IT systems and devices used by the force’s officers and staff.
The NMC provides knowledge above and beyond what would typically be possible at force level, helping to ensure police forces can stay ahead of crime.
This knowledge is shared across the policing community, and gives police forces - and UK policing as a whole - a much broader perspective of the threat landscape.
The NEP recently won Security Project of the Year at Computing’s Digital Technology Leaders Awards to add to their The Law Enforcement Cyber Product of the Year in The National Cyber Awards in September.
