The National Management Centre, the nationally-supported cyber security protection facility that’s being rolled out across police forces, has been announced as a finalist for Best Security Team at this year’s SC Awards Europe.
Nominated in the category of Best Security Team 2020, the award covers the ICT and security teams across police forces in England and Wales along with the implementation and business change team within the National Enabling Programmes (NEP).
Both groups have been instrumental in implementing the NMC in each local police force.
The nomination recognises the significant effort and work that local ICT and Security teams have invested to advance the profile of cyber security within their force, as well as for the strong engagement, support and effort with the central NEP team in delivering the NMC within each force.
The NMC is currently in live operation with 25 forces, with further forces being added over the coming months.
Now in its tenth year, the SC Awards Europe recognise the significant work that has been taking place in Europe within the cyber security sector over the past year.
Independent judges from across the cyber world have carefully considered each entrant against a range of criteria - including customer satisfaction - to determine who exemplifies best practice.
The award winners and those highly commended will be announced in June 2020.
The awards are administered by SC Media, a leading information resource for cyber-security professionals in the UK and Europe. SC Media is well-regarded in the IT industry for providing comprehensive analysis and expert contributions around the subject of cyber-security, government regulations and current IT security technologies
The NMC utilises a range of security tools, technologies and a specialist team of analysts that together help forces detect, protect, monitor and respond to cyber threats.
Generating alerts on a near-real time basis, the NMC warns if there are any indications of potential security attacks, or unusual and suspicious behaviour. This ensures each force’s local ICT team can lock down and eliminate cyber threats before they can cause damage and disruption to the IT systems and devices used by officers and staff.
This NMC is an essential vehicle for ensuring police forces can safely and securely share knowledge and information with each other and authorised partners, which will help enable better cross-force and cross-partner collaboration, save valuable time and deliver enhanced security for policing information.
The NMC is just one of the steps in the work the NEP is doing to help police forces transform the way they securely and safely work and collaborate. In addition to the NMC, the NEP is introducing productivity services, based on the Microsoft 365 suite of applications, and a nationally-supported Identity Access Management (IAM) service, to ensure the right individuals can securely access the resources and information they need, wherever they are.
