One big (and growing) Policing community on Teams

Over 50,000 police officers and staff across England and Wales are now using Microsoft Teams with the support of the National Enabling Programmes (NEP). Microsoft Teams enables Policing to collaborate and share information in innovative new ways from within a safe, audited and secure environment.

Director of the NEP Wayne Parkes noted that “over the past three months, the National Enabling Programmes has been directly supporting UK Policing in its response to COVID-19. We [NEP] are currently supporting half of the forces in England and Wales by facilitating an accelerated delivery of the Productivity Services, with this rapid deployment aligning fully with our Blueprint designs."

"Reaching the 50,000 ‘active’ user milestone is really a symbol of the fantastic effort being made by forces, the programme team and our delivery partners. The real impact of this platform can be seen in how officers and staff are changing the ways they work for the benefit of their communities. Indeed, we are seeing forces using Teams across every department. We have front-line officers sharing video footage of incidents with specialists such as forensic officers to support in making quick and well-informed decisions, whilst L&D departments are using Teams to host virtual training sessions and continue with the recruitment of new staff and officers.”

“We have all faced new challenges when it comes to remote working during this pandemic. Teams has enabled colleagues to remain physically distant whilst continuing to work closely together. And from a wellbeing perspective, the video calls and chat function allows staff to formally or informally check in on each other at the click of a button. That’s a real benefit in limiting the feeling of isolation.”

Whilst many officers and staff across England and Wales are reaping the benefits of using Microsoft Teams within their daily operation, there are two key aspects of the NEP which allow this to be done effectively and securely. The National Management Centre and Identity & Access Management services ensure that data can be accessed by the right people at the right time, all whilst making sure data is stored securely in the cloud.
